It has been an amazing 4 days in Tuscany. We have visited some beautiful towns: Montalcino, Pienze, Montepulciano and tasted some delicious wine and cheese! We visited a 6th Century Abbey and heard the Gregorian Chant. And we drove on some insane roads (see pictures below and then look back at the car we rented!). I hit a few vines and brush but the car survived. Our home for our time in Montalcino was part of a vineyard, each of us having our own apartment. Jack & Kris' patio was covered by grapevines! Our last night (yesterday) brought a thunderstorm with the wind blowing so hard the shutters were slamming. It was amazing!
Today we drove into Rome. It took about 3 hours with beautiful scenery and towns along the way. As we approached I was wistful for the serenity of Tuscany until I saw the sites of Rome!! What a contrast from where we've been - the frenzy is incredible. We ditched the car and went on the "Caesar Shuffle" - walked around the colosseum (touring that on Thursday) the forum, and Palantine Hill. Tomorrow we tour the Vatican!!

A road in Montalcino. Notice it is one- way! We didn't always let that stop us!

At a tour of a winery!

The walled city of Montepulciano. Jack and I got caught in the labyrinth of roads..........With me behind the wheel and him navigating. What a riot.

Our "villa".
More to come!

Oh, Roma! ::: sigh ::: I just absolutely love that city. Enjoy it! See if you can find Cafe American in just off of the piazza in which the Pantheon is located. We did a LOT of drinking in that place! Also, be sure to drink a fuego de rojo (Red Fire). They light the shot on fire while you hold ice in your hand. Then, you drop the ice, clap your hand down on the shot glass, and the heat exchange creates a vacuum. You lift your hand and the glass with it and shake up the drink to mix it. Careful, though: if you wait too long to bring your hand down on the glass you'll get a nice little burn mark on your palm (Erika knows all about this ;)!
Or, you could just go check out the Pantheon for a little bit and move on. It's pretty cool and really old ;).
The pics of Tuscany look incredible!
I am entranced by your pictures!! You MUST make a calendar of them. I want to be beamed into some of the locales!! SO relaxing!!
